MATERIALS

Naturalstone Solutions – A manufactured Precast Stone Veneer weighing approximately 7 to 10 lbs. per sq. ft. approximately 1 to 3 inches in thickness depending on the style of stone
Sand – A washed, clean masonry type
Cement - Type S
Metal Lath – 2.5 Galvanized Diamond Mesh
Surfaces that can receive Naturalstone Solutions
Existing surfaces must present a firm and unified base for the veneer. On Exterior applications it is recommended that all wood surfaces and other surfaces not classified as a “water barrier” should have a layer of 15 lb. Felt Paper applied before installing the Wire Lath.

MORTAR
For Type S; use 1 part of Type S with the 2 parts of masonry sand. The same mix is used for the Scratch Coat, Setting Bed and the Grouting of the stone. Masonry Coloring, if desired, may be added and thoroughly mixed in the Mortar.

Application of Naturalstone Solutions Veneer (may apply over most existing surfaces – refer to drawings)

  1. Apply 15 lb. Felt Paper (if required) using ½” (minimum) Galvanized Roofing Nails or Staples
  2. Apply Metal Lath, to wood jambs with plywood sheathing, using a minimum of 1 ½” Galvanized Roofing Nails or Staples. For steel jambs, use the appropriately sized self drilling screw to penetrate the steel stud a minimum of ½”. Spacing of fasteners to be on 6” Centers.
  3. Apply the Mortar Scratch Coat, forcing the Mortar into the Lath and completely covering Lath; overall thickness should be approximately 3/8”. It is acceptable to apply the stone while the scratch coat is still wet. If the scratch coat completely dries before applying the stone, the scratch coat should be moistened by spraying it with water.
  4. Select, cut (where required), and fit the stone. Important: Stone to be set 2” above Flat Work, 4” above Bare Ground.
  5. Apply the Mortar Setting Bed to the back of each stone (approximately ½” inch thick).
  6. Fill in all joints between Stone using a Grout Bag. After joints have become firm to the touch, use a blunt instrument to rake out the joint partially. Finish smoothing and cleaning joints with a Wire Brush; make sure you brush any Mortar off the face of the Stone before it permanently hardens

Masonry Sealer –A clear sealer may be applied when required. Be sure the sealer is compatible to the stone product and follow supplier/manufacturers' recommendations.
